Further information

Wind-blown paper startled a horse being ridden on a duty journey from the Elephant and Castle to Brigade HQ. Had returned the 'mobile station', to its overnight storage location and was riding back two horses. Coroners inquest revealed that in fact he should not have been riding the horse. Awarded Albert Medal for his actions involving a fire in a magazine whilst serving as the Quartermaster on board HMS Thunderer on 2 January 1879. Award conferred 6 June 1879.
